Celerie Kemble of Kemble Interiors had the unique opportunity to furnish a room with her own product lines for this year’s Hampton Designer Showhouse. The eclectic décor is a testament not only to Celerie’s product development and design talents, but also to her ability to mix styles, materials, ideas and colors to harmonious, beautiful effect. Blending warm and cool grays, creamy whites, and splashes of blue, pink, and gold, Celerie created a master bedroom with incredible warmth despite its cool overall tone. In Celerie’s words:
“With our bedroom in The 2013 Hampton Designer Show House, we aspired to achieve balance between materials and furniture styles that felt natural, cozy, and casual and decorative elements that felt more sculptural and glamorous. Also, balance between colors that were vivid, cool, and energetic and those that were more tempered, warm and restful.”
Merida created two unique rugs for this room, both featuring patterns co-created with Celerie. The first was a large cut of Nasturtium Weave sisal in Fog, with several shapes cut out of it. One side featured a concave half hexagon shape designed to skirt around the edge of the sun-lit seating area. The other was a large fireplace cut-out.
Celerie remarked on her choices of floorcoverings for the room: “With our selection of two Merida rugs, we chose the most feminine and classic — a patterned woven sisal called Nasturtium Weave — to speak to the warmth, the organic beauty, and the traditional elements in the room while in our sun room a round, custom colored flame stitched Catalyst almost dances underfoot and completely enlivens the seating area. The ability to match our fabric colors in Catalyst, to seam invisibly to achieve our large round circle, and to and bind our sisal in a Metallic Linen Binding, a material that mimicked the texture of our deep charcoal Grasscloth Wallpaper, made our whole room come together.”
Woven in Belgium of the highest-quality sisal, Nasturtium Weave features a rhythmic, organic pattern inspired by the medallion-shaped silhouette of the Nasturtium flower. Nasturtium Weave is one of our almost 90 products that ship in 2-4 weeks.
The second floorcovering was a custom-colored Catalyst wool and linen circular, flat-woven rug. Custom-created to rest in the beautiful sun-lit seating area in the corner of the master suite, the rug pulls together the white furniture, gray walls, and floor.
Because our loom has a maximum width of 10’ 3” for Catalyst, we seamed two pieces together to create the 11’ 6” diameter that Celerie needed. Woven and finished in our Fall River, Massachusetts mill, this particular Catalyst design subtly mixes gold-browns and slate grays to match perfectly with its setting.
