Life got easier this week for those seeking soft, natural rugs and floor coverings that don't threaten indoor air quality or contribute greatly to indoor Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) levels. Merida Meridian's new Pure wool rugs were awarded the Carpet and Rug Institutes' (CRI) Green Label Plus Certification, which sets the highest standard for indoor air quality ever set by the carpet industry.
Pure is the result of two years of collaborative development between Merida and their European partners to create a product that sets new standards for sustainable flooring and healthy home environments. "We take our health and the environment seriously at Merida and achieving this certification is an exciting step for us. This carpet should be in every home and apartment in America as indoor air quality is an increasing concern with our customers and for me personally as a parent," said Merida CEO Catherine Forster Connolly.
Merida felt confident submitting Pure for this voluntary independent testing due to its unique composition and attributes. Pure, code named "Extreme Green" during development, is made of 100% natural materials and there are no dyes used. The result is a biodegradable wool rug that can be composted at the end of its life cycle in an industrial composter rather than enter landfills unlike more than four billion pounds of carpet that enters the solid waste stream in the U.S. every year according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
Pure is unique to Merida as their first true wall-to-wall carpeting and provides many new opportunities for Merida which is well known in the interior design industry for high-quality, custom natural area rugs. While Pure can be made into custom area rugs and is perfect for residential usage, its suitability for wall-to-wall and contract applications in commercial environments allows for significant customer crossover.
The CRI Green Label Plus Certification meets and exceeds California's indoor quality standards for low-emitting products used in commercial settings such as schools and office buildings. The certification also means Pure contributes one full Indoor Environmental Quality Credit to the LEED ratings of the U.S. Green Building Council. This makes Merida suddenly relevant for hospitals, schools, office buildings, apartment complexes and hotels.
Pure is currently available to consumers in standard sizes at www.MeridaHome.com, Merida's consumer web store featuring area rugs online. Pure is available for custom area rugs and for wall-to-wall purchases through Merida's network of dealers which can be found on their company website at www.MeridaMeridian.com. Commercial orders and information on becoming a Pure dealer can be obtained by emailing or calling Merida directly.View the featured quality
