What Makes A Merida Rug
Each Merida rug is an inventive, ingenious collaboration.
Between our designers and our craftspeople, between materials and weaves, between hand and machine.
WHEN WE BEGAN to design and weave rugs in Fall River, Massachusetts--we challenged ourselves to slow down, creating small-batch rugs, made to order for each client, each room, and each home. On heritage looms, we began creating heirloom rugs. In the process, we elevated the expectations in the design community for quality and originality-rare things in today's mass-oriented world.
Today, under the artistic direction of Sylvie Johnson, our innovation continues, as our design team and workshop together explore the characters of the yarns -plying, twisting, and blending-to define the voice of our newest designs. The exploration doesn't stop with the yarn. We expand on materials and weaves, and blur the line between hand and machine, in a relentless pursuit of originality.
With a simplicity that belies their complexity, our rugs are subtle, minimal, sophisticated, and beautiful.
what we believe
A Merida rug, should be a pleasure forever. Rugs are the center of a home, so beauty and originality matter, and so do quality and craftsmanship.
Yarns are the voice of the design, so we explore their every twist, blend, and ply to create pattern, depth, texture, beauty, and sophistication.
Natural, honest, sustainable fibers--sisal, wool, linen, mohair, alpaca, silk--are the foundation of our designs.
Every rug is an ingenious, inventive collaboration: Our best design discoveries happen on the workshop floor, where our designers and our craftspeople work as a team.
Details matter: in design, weaving, finishing, and in installation, so that every project begins and ends perfectly.
